José Augusto Palhares Malafaia, owner of Casa Malafaia, was a Vianense emigrant who returned with the capitalist status to live on financial income invested in Brazil, who after his death had left his heritage to his sister Antónia Hermínia Malafaia, widow of José Cerqueira .
Malafaia "retired" emigrant became a philanthropist in Viana, awarding school prizes to students of primary education and high school; left in testament money for the Association of Artists of Viana and was also a benefactor of the Congregação de Nossa Senhora da Caridade.
This well-educated man invested in the acquisition of goods such as the "Casa Malafaia", where the Palace of HG Residences Viana is now built and where the architectural of the "Brazilian" remains.
